Recognition of Prior Learning[1][2]

Due to the nature of the helicopter training syllabus there are many and varied levels of competencies that students could have obtained throughout either prior flying and/or theory.

We recognise prior learning(RPL), but assessments must be determined upon application.

Applying for RPL

Fees for the RPL assessments shall be determined upon application.

Minimum hours

Despite a student having the minimum number of hours to achieve a qualification the flying standard is competency-based and even with prior learning the student may need to allow for revision and currency of their flying training and / or ability.

Overseas licences

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has guidelines in the regulations in regards to overseas licence recognition.

RPL is very much a liaison process with CASA and the flight school.  At times it cannot be determined how much RPL can be attributed until validation of log books and syllabus items that also are under joined by the ICAO standards internationally.

Record of course credit[3]

When course credit has been granted this will be recorded on the student’s file and reflected in the enrolment details and in the Course Syllabus.

Pre-enrolment

[4]If the course credit is granted prior to enrolment then it will be detailed in the Letter of Offer & Acceptance provided to the student who must sign and return to us.

If the course credit is granted prior to enrolment (before student visa grant) then it will be detailed in the Letter of Offer & Acceptance provided to the student who must sign and return to us.  It will also be reflected in the Confirmation of Enrolment issued for that course of study.

Post-enrolment

[5]If the course credit is granted after enrolment (after student visa grant) then the student’s enrolment details will change including detailing any change in course duration.  This will be reported via PRISMS under Standard 12 of the National Code of Practice 2007.

The students Course Schedule will also be updated to show the new course duration.
