Captain Scott Summers – Flight Program Director
Scott Summers joined Becker Helicopter Services in August 2011. Scott is responsible for the management of the Military Flight School. His responsibilities include:
- Manage the Flight School
- Conduct the flight program in accordance with the client specific flight training syllabus, and
- Senior NVG Pilot/Instructor.
Skills and Experience
Scott’s qualifications and experience has been gained over a 22 year Army career. His time in the Australian Defence Force commenced as a qualified Paratrooper with the Infantry Corp, he then transferred internally to be trained to become a Helicopter Technician, working on the Australian Black Hawk Helicopter, the S70A-9. After 9 years in the Army as a Soldier he undertook Officer training to commence Helicopter Pilot Training. He continued to serve a further 14 years as a Black Hawk Pilot and Flight Instructor, leaving Defence at the rank of Major. He has since converted many of these skill sets into civilian qualifications.
Scott’s initial employment within the Defence Force Aviation capability was with the 5th Aviation Regiment as an Airmobile pilot with B Sqn. In 2004 he was transferred for training as a Qualified Flight Instructor. During this time he was also deployed for 5 months to support operations in Afghanistan as the Electronic Warfare advisor to the Australian CH47 detachment. Upon return Scott served his last 6 years in Sydney with the 171st Special Operations Aviation Squadron, where he was employed as a Senior Black Hawk flight instructor, Lead Planner and Mission Flight Lead for Counter Terrorist Aviation Operations.
At present Scott is providing ongoing instructor mentorship, management of one of our military flight training contracts including further development and integration of “current time” procedures and methods into the syllabus after client consultation. He provides ongoing feedback to the client and manages the relationship to ensure that Becker Helicopters continues to provide the best quality training possible to ensure military Aviators are ready for the next phase in Training.
