TWO Sunshine Coast business owners are vying for a share in the $650,000 worth of cash and prizes after being named finalists in the 2014 Telstra Queensland Business Women’s Award.
Captain Jan Becker from Becker Helicopter Services in Marcoola is finalist in the business owner award and Buderim Mortgage Choice’s Linda Ireland is a finalist in the young business women’s award.
They will join 22 other finalists from across the state to find out if they are going to the national finals in Melbourne on November 26, which offers the $650,000 prize tally.
Included in the list of finalists are two women who have changed the face of Queensland’s health service.
They are Professor Claire Jackson, a state and national health policy advisor from the University of Queensland and mastermind behind Queensland’s new alternative to hospital waiting lists, GP super clinics, and Lyn
Davies, director of Tunstall Healthcare.
The 24 finalists join a prestigious list of previous winners, including QSuper CEO Rosemary Vilgan, and for
mer prime minister Kevin Rudd’s wife, Therese Rein, who won as the managing director of Ingeus Ltd and CEO of Assure Programs.
Mrs Becker, the CEO of flight training and air operations at Becker Helicopters, is up against Robyn Petrou, the CEO of Energy Super and Melinda Watt, the vice president of Earth Check for the Business Owner Award.
Telstra chief operations officer and Telstra Business Women’s Awards ambassador Kate McKenzie recognised the diversity of the 2014 Queensland finalists.
“The awards have uncovered stories of amazing business women at all stages in their careers,” she said.
The Queensland winners will be announced on Tuesday, September 30 in Brisbane.Share
